Ava Weeks
Pro CNPL
Ava began playing pickleball in 2021 and was named Pickleball Alberta Junior Player of the Year in 2022. She quickly became one of Alberta’s top female players, competing professionally in the CNPL. With high-level playing experience, a Kinesiology/Education background, and an NCCP Level 1 Coaching Certification, Ava brings a strong and well-rounded approach to her clinics and lessons.
Andy Yan
Pickleball Instructor
Andy started playing pickleball in October 2024 and quickly established himself as an upcoming elite player. He earned Gold and Bronze at the 2025 Provincials, followed by three Gold Medals at Nationals. With a background in collegiate volleyball and coaching experience, Andy brings strong athletic ability, game awareness, and a passion for helping players reach their full potential.
Karla Mertiny
Director of Pickleball
Karla is a lifelong Edmontonian and passionate multi-sport athlete with extensive experience in competitive swimming, track and field, soccer, volleyball, basketball, and more. She has coached at the high school, club, and minor levels and brings a strong understanding of body mechanics, positioning, and technique. A certified NCCP Level 1 coach, Karla has been coaching pickleball since 2024 and is passionate about helping players understand and improve their game.
Shane Goudie
Pickleball Instructor
Shane grew up in Nova Scotia as a competitive tennis player, ranked 8th in U-14 provincials and Atlantic Jr Regionals, before earning his NCCP Level 1 Tennis Certification and transitioning into coaching. He began playing pickleball in 2023 and quickly found success, including two King of the Court wins and a Bronze at the Leduc 55+ Games. With his NCCP Level 1 Pickleball Certification, competitive background, and calm approach, Shane brings strong match play, teamwork, and court strategy to his coaching.
Jeffrey Stone
Pickleball Instructor
Jeffrey is passionate about all things pickleball, from playing and organizing games to understanding DUPR and refining his strategy. Known for his calm, cerebral approach, he excels at resets, drop shots, and controlling the kitchen line. Easygoing and approachable, Jeffrey is the perfect coach for players looking to add finesse, improve their short game, and take their pickleball skills to the next level.
Shea Koebel
Pickleball Instructor
Shea began playing pickleball in 2023 and quickly became one of Alberta’s top elite female players, earning multiple Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals at Provincials, Western Regionals, and Nationals. A former elite volleyball player and Alberta Winter Games team member, she also has extensive coaching experience with Volleyball Alberta and Skate Canada. Currently studying Business at the University of Alberta, Shea brings a calm, sportsmanlike approach and a strong understanding of the game to her coaching.
Hoffman Yu
Pickleball Instructor
Hoffman is a passionate multi-sport athlete and coach with over a decade of badminton experience and five years of coaching at club and school levels. He began playing pickleball in 2024 and quickly earned medals in 4.5+ tournaments, including a podium finish in the Men’s Doubles Open Division at the 2025 Alberta Provincial Championship. With a strong background in badminton, volleyball, and coaching, Hoffman brings energy, expertise, and a focus on helping players improve their skills and game.
